Why Valve's headset could not hit $1,059

Valve wanted its Steam Frame headset, which works without cables, to cost less than $1,059, developer Jeremy Selan said Sept. 14. Rising prices for memory and storage made that impossible, despite what Selan called a hard fight on cost. Valve had hoped to beat its $999 Index, which stays plugged into a computer.
