Lord Blunkett called the 20% tax on farms worth over £2.5m passed on after death “a mistake”. He urged Prime Minister Andy Burnham to listen to rural areas. Lord Cameron called it “stupid” at a Countryside Alliance event in London on Monday. Ministers said they were “determined to rebuild trust” with farmers. They said most farms would not pay it.
