First Woman on Australia's Top Court Dies at 83

Mary Gaudron, the first woman to sit on Australia's top court, has died at 83. Chosen in 1987 at 44, she served until 2003 and helped decide the historic Mabo case on Indigenous land ownership. She had argued the 1972 equal pay case and decided maternity leave cases, later leading the International Labour Organization's workplace court in Geneva.
