Heart attack patients wait weeks as staff shortages leave treatment rooms sitting empty

Heart attack patients in Wellington and Christchurch are waiting weeks for procedures that should happen within 48 hours, cardiologist Dr Andrew Chatfield says, calling it a "shambles." Specialised rooms for heart treatment sit unused for parts of the day because there are not enough trained staff to run them. Health New Zealand says more beds are expected in coming years.
