Canada to tax $20 billion of U.S. products starting September 8

Starting September 8, 2026, Canada will add extra charges — called tariffs — on $20 billion worth of U.S. products, after trade talks broke down. About 700 American goods will face tax rates of 15, 25 or 50 per cent. The move responds to similar charges the U.S. placed on Canadian goods last month when negotiations failed.
