Canada's $20-billion counter-tariffs on U.S. goods take effect September 8
Canada will impose retaliatory tariffs on $20 billion of U.S. goods effective September 8, 2026, following the collapse of trade talks with Washington. The countermeasures levy duties of 15, 25 and 50 per cent across roughly 700 American products. They respond to 50 per cent U.S. tariffs on Canadian exports imposed after negotiations failed last month.
