Passenger Ferry Sinks Near Cyprus, Leaving at Least Seven Dead

A ferry carrying about 267 people sank just 15 minutes after leaving northern Cyprus for Turkey on 30 August 2026. At least seven died and 23 are still missing; 237 were saved. Bad weather was blamed. Rescue boats are still searching. Northern Cyprus is a region that only Turkey officially recognizes as a country.
