
U.S. Treasury to Buy Back Twice as Many Long-Term Bonds
Starting September 9, 2026, the Treasury will double how many long-term bonds it buys back — from $2 billion to at least $4 billion per operation. The "at least" means it could buy more. Bond traders must adjust pricing and hedges. Big banks may gain breathing room if the buybacks soak up older, harder-to-trade bonds.
