Iran Says It Could Shut Down All Gulf Oil Shipments

Iran's security chief Mohsen Rezaei said August 22 that "not even a drop of oil" would leave the Gulf if neighboring countries join US sanctions — penalties meant to pressure Iran economically. He likely means not just the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow waterway carrying a fifth of the world's oil and gas, but also the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, which Saudi Arabia uses as an alternate shipping route.
