Labor Groups Sue to Stop New Limits on Student and Journalist Visas

Unions including the American Federation of Teachers sued DHS on August 18, 2026, to block a rule capping student visas at four years and journalist visas at 240 days. The rule takes effect September 15, leaving about four weeks for a court to step in. Over one million international students and foreign journalists in the US could be affected.
