Copper Is Now BHP's Top Money-Maker, Beating Iron Ore

BHP, one of the world's largest mining companies, made a record US$18 billion in operating profit from copper in its 2026 financial year. Copper now brings in more than half of BHP's total profit, edging out iron ore for the first time. BHP also expects to produce 1.9–2.0 million tonnes of copper this year. The company confirmed the change in its August 18 annual report.
