MP Chris Penk quits after challenging Luxon for the top job
Chris Penk, a government minister, will not stand for re-election in November. His statement came about three hours after Prime Minister Christopher Luxon took away his ministerial roles. Penk had tried to replace Luxon as leader, forcing MPs to vote on whether they still backed the Prime Minister. They did, and Luxon removed Penk's roles. Penk served nine years in Parliament.
