U.S. Will Let Private Companies Fight Back Against Online Criminals

On August 13, 2026, the White House said approved private companies can, for the first time, use hacking tools to spy on and disrupt international criminal groups, under a memorandum signed by President Trump. Federal laws previously barred private companies from doing this. Detailed guidance is expected within two months.
