Overcrowded boat overturns on Zimbabwe lake, killing 44

At least 44 people died when a boat carrying far too many passengers flipped over on Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe on August 11, 2026. Police twice raised the death count as they kept searching. The boat was approved for 90 people, but tickets showed 119 aboard — and a crew member said 153.
