
Ebola in Congo: Deaths Pass 2,000 in Record-Fast Outbreak
Ebola — a deadly virus spreading through contact — has killed 2,011 people across five parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo as of 11 August, with 4,381 confirmed cases. At least 1,000 died in just three weeks. Declared 15 May, it is Congo's fastest-growing outbreak ever, second only to West Africa's 2014–2016 epidemic, which killed 11,310.
