A rival app store returns to Google Play in the U.S.
Aptoide, an alternative app store from Portugal with about 25 million monthly users, became available on Google Play in the U.S. on August 10, 2026. For over ten years, Americans could only install it manually — downloading it from Aptoide's own website rather than through Google's store. A court order from the Epic Games v. Google antitrust case forced the change. Aptoide pays $5,000 per year for the access.
