Pentagon Loans $1.4 Billion to Boost EV Battery Material Factory

The Pentagon agreed to lend $1.4 billion to Sila Nanotechnologies to expand its Washington state factory fivefold. Open since September 2025, the plant makes a battery material that stores 20–40% more energy than the graphite most batteries use today — and graphite supply is dominated by Chinese companies. The expanded factory could supply material for over 100,000 electric vehicles.
