Greens propose $2.44b marae trust governed entirely by hapū and iwi, outside Crown control
The Green Party is proposing Te Rangatiratanga Trust — a NZ$2.44 billion fund for marae — owned and governed entirely by hapū and iwi. The Greens said the government would have no authority to direct investments, appoint trustees, alter funding decisions or interfere beyond ordinary law. Co-leader Marama Davidson said marae were critical infrastructure needing funding certainty.
