Burnham bars rape and child sex offenders from early prison release

Prime Minister Andy Burnham has excluded rape, serious child sexual abuse and grooming offences from early-release sentencing changes in England and Wales, the government confirmed. Around 1,000 fewer prisoners will be released early as a result. Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp called it Burnham's most important decision since becoming PM — and said he got it wrong.
