
Freeland compares China's extraterritorial ethnic unity law to Putin's Ukraine invasion rationale
Former deputy PM Chrystia Freeland told the Ketagalan Forum in Taipei that China's Law on Promoting Ethnic Unity and Progress, in effect since July 1, echoes Putin's "one people" justification for invading Ukraine. Article 63 claims legal liability for individuals and groups outside China who "undermine ethnic unity." Freeland urged democratic governments to state the law has no force on their territories.
