Labour proposes raising the GST registration threshold from $60,000 to $80,000, freeing about 35,000 operators from GST registration. Deloitte GST expert Alan Bullot warns the change would shift compliance problems, not solve them. Some within Inland Revenue argue the threshold should be lowered rather than raised, Bullot said. The $60,000 threshold has been unchanged since 2009.
