At Least 100 Dead in Ceuta Migrant Crossings, 5,000 Still Stranded in Enclave

Ceuta's leader Juan Jesús Vivas told the European Parliament on 6 August that at least 100 people died when roughly 72,000 migrants crossed from Morocco into the Spanish enclave on 30–31 July. Vivas said 3,000–5,000 remain in Ceuta, whose population is 80,000. Reception centres have "collapsed," and Spain's government declined to attend the hearing.
