
Industry bodies to design secondary school subjects in NCEA replacement overhaul
The government has tasked Industry Skills Boards — set up to oversee tertiary and apprenticeship qualifications — with developing nine new Year 12 and 13 subjects, including tourism, construction, and energy and infrastructure. The subjects will be available from 2029 under qualifications replacing NCEA. It is the first time industry bodies have had a direct role in school curriculum design.
