Carney warns Canada will 'get tougher' with U.S. if no trade deal by Aug. 19

Prime Minister Mark Carney said Canada is prepared to escalate against the United States if no trade deal is reached before Trump's latest tariffs take effect Aug. 19. "The time to get tougher will be if there is a moment where there isn't a deal," Carney said in Toronto. He did not specify measures, saying only Canada "has options," and has ruled out using energy as leverage.
