Hungary Shuts Down Sole Nuclear Plant as Record-Low Danube Ends 44-Year Cooling Streak

Hungary has shut down most of the Paks nuclear plant — its only such facility — after record-low Danube water levels made safe cooling impossible. It is the first drought-induced shutdown in Paks's 44-year history. A full power-down was expected later in the week as river levels fall further. PM Péter Magyar warned "the hardest five days are ahead."
