Burnham Presses to Exempt Child Rapists From UK Prison Early Release as Ministers Face 24-Hour Deadline

Andy Burnham is urging the UK government to exclude child rapists and serious sexual abuse perpetrators from its prison early release scheme. Ministers have 24 hours to finalize exempted categories so the Prison Service can prepare for roughly 700 releases this autumn. Without the scheme, jails in England and Wales could reach full capacity by November, according to Foreign Secretary David Lammy.
