Nirmal Purja, Record-Breaking Mountaineer, Killed in Broad Peak Avalanche

Nirmal Purja, 43, was confirmed dead alongside nine others after an avalanche struck his expedition on Broad Peak in Pakistan on July 30. Elite Exped, the company he co-founded, confirmed the deaths. Purja made history in 2019 by climbing all 14 peaks above 8,000 metres in six months and later led the first winter summit of K2.
