Chinese Embassy lodges formal complaint with MFAT over Peters' "go back to your own country" remark

The Chinese Embassy lodged "solemn representations" with MFAT after Foreign Minister Winston Peters told Green MP Lawrence Xu-Nan, who has lived in New Zealand since 1994, to "go back to your own country" in Parliament on 30 July. Peters also said "This is called a democracy, unlike what you're used to." Peters' spokesperson confirmed he was briefed on MFAT's conversation with the Embassy.
