Criminal Cases Review Commission wants tighter eyewitness evidence laws

The Criminal Cases Review Commission has tabled a report in Parliament recommending changes to the Evidence Act 2006 to tighten rules around eyewitness identification evidence. Chief Commissioner Denis Clifford led the inquiry — the Commission's first systemic investigation. Nearly one-fifth of applications in its first five years raised identification issues. The report, with three recommendations, has gone to Justice Minister Paul Goldsmith.
