Over 300,000 Evacuated as Wildfires Sweep France and Spain, Three Dead

Since mid-July 2026, simultaneous wildfires have forced over 300,000 evacuations across France and Spain. Roughly 220,000 were displaced in France, where two firefighters died battling blazes in Gironde on July 21 and over 100 homes were destroyed near Bordeaux. In Spain, 211 zones across fourteen communities face civil protection emergencies. Fires remain only partially contained as a new heatwave approaches.
