Proposed AV Bill Would Let Local Officials Geofence Autonomous Vehicles During Emergencies

Rep. Kevin Mullin (D-Calif.) introduced the AV Emergency Response Coordination Act on July 28 in San Francisco. The bill would let public officials geofence autonomous vehicles in real time during emergencies, restricting where AVs operate — a capability no level of government currently holds under a standardized federal framework. NHTSA would develop the implementing standards.
