FAA Proposes Seat Inspections on 453 Boeing 737 MAX Jets Over Evacuation Risk

The FAA proposed an Airworthiness Directive requiring inspections of 453 US-registered Boeing 737 MAX jets after finding seats incorrectly installed in seat tracks. The FAA warned loose seats during emergency landings could injure passengers and block aisle evacuations. Boeing issued operator guidance on the issue in December 2025 and supports making it mandatory. Nearly 2,300 MAX jets fly worldwide.
