Family of Indigenous man who died in NT police custody launches Supreme Court action over non-prosecution decision

Kumanjayi White's family filed NT Supreme Court proceedings seeking to identify who decided not to charge officers involved in his death after restraint in a Coles supermarket. The DPP cited "no reasonable prospects of a successful prosecution." The family, represented by lawyer George Newhouse, demands reasons under the Victims of Crime Charter and reconsideration. A coronial inquest is set for Alice Springs in April 2027.
