Cairngorms Wildfire Still Uncontained After Flare-Up, Over a Week On

Police Scotland declared a major incident on 15 July 2026 near Nethy Bridge after a wind change intensified wildfire risk in the Cairngorms. A flare-up on 23 July confirmed containment had not stabilised. More than 500 firefighters were mobilised cumulatively. Smoke reached Aberdeen, roughly 90 km northeast. The fire remained active as of 25 July.
