Patreon cuts 20% of staff, CEO says AI "fundamentally transformed" operations but denies direct replacement
Patreon is laying off roughly 93 employees, 20% of its workforce, and closing its Dublin and Berlin offices. CEO Jack Conte wrote that the cuts are not because "we believe AI replaces humans," but said AI has "fundamentally transformed" how the company works, builds products, and communicates. He told The Verge's Decoder podcast that without fully embracing AI, Patreon "will be dead in three years." Patreon previously cut 17% of staff in 2022.
