Shah Defeats DCCC-Backed Galán-Woods in Arizona's 1st District Democratic Primary

Emergency physician Amish Shah won the July 22 Democratic primary in Arizona's 1st congressional district, defeating Marlene Galán-Woods, whom the DCCC endorsed in May. The open seat — left vacant when Republican David Schweikert ran for governor — has backed both parties' presidential nominees since 2020. Shah faces Trump-endorsed former NFL kicker Jay Feely in November.
