MP calls for parliamentary memorial to Ann Widdecombe as counter-terrorism police investigate her death
Conservative MP Helen Grant has written to the Commons Speaker seeking support for a memorial to Ann Widdecombe, describing her as "a formidable Parliamentarian" who "diligently served her communities for 23 years." Grant, who succeeded Widdecombe in 2010, said it would acknowledge "the threat to our democracy that violence like this brings." Counter-terrorism police are treating the 78-year-old's death as a targeted attack. A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
