
Telstra: $30,000 server replacement and missed software update would have prevented triple zero outage
Telstra executives told a Senate inquiry on 17 July 2026 that a five-hour national triple zero outage on 15 July — which disrupted 604 emergency calls — could have been prevented by replacing a 15-year-old server costing roughly $30,000 or applying a software update that was never installed. CEO Vicki Brady said the company's controls were not good enough.
