Volunteer firefighter jailed on suspicion of starting Fontainebleau forest fire

An 18-year-old volunteer firefighter was formally investigated and imprisoned on suspicion of starting the Fontainebleau forest fire south of Paris. He initially confessed to igniting twigs with a lighter and petrol, then retracted it. The blaze burned 10% of a UNESCO World Heritage forest. A second 18-year-old was also investigated; four others remained in custody. The fire was declared contained July 15.
