UK designates Iran's Revolutionary Guard a security threat, criminalising support

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has used new powers under the National Security (State Threats) Act to designate Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps a threat to national security. Expressing support for or assisting the IRGC becomes a criminal offence carrying up to 14 years in prison. The move follows sustained pressure from Parliament and the London Assembly, ending years of UK reluctance to act on a designation already made by the EU and US.
