Weil, Gotshal & Manges, a nearly century-old law firm, told partners on October 28, 2026 that it plans to wind down operations rather than file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. A Chapter 11 filing would put the process under court supervision; a wind-down outside it would set creditor payments and partner capital through private agreements, none yet public.
