Only a Quarter of Young Voters Cast Ballots in 2022 Midterms

Only a quarter of young voters cast ballots in the 2022 midterm elections, half the overall turnout rate, according to Reuters reporting from March 2026. The contrast matters because 81% of 18- to 34-year-olds named cost of living a top issue in the spring 2026 Yale Youth Poll. Surveys measure stated priorities; turnout measures who actually votes.
