Telstra outage broke triple-zero failover — some callers hit error messages instead of emergency services
Telstra's July 8 network outage produced a secondary fault that prevented some customers reaching triple zero. Affected handsets received error messages rather than connecting to emergency services, and failed to failover to rival carriers. Triple-zero calls are designed to work carrier-agnostic — any network should reach operators. The fault was identified around 9:30pm, hours after the primary outage was supposedly resolved. Telstra conducted over 300 welfare checks on triple-zero call attempts during the window.
