OpenAI plans to train frontier models without live internet access

OpenAI has announced it will train frontier AI models with no live internet connection, citing the current state of alignment research, monitoring and internet infrastructure security. Agents will use browsers, computer-use tools and code environments inside a secure environment, drawing on an offline indexed and cached web corpus. Broader access is to return only when safeguards improve.
