Rhode Island Sues Meta Over Alleged Failure to Curb Scam Ads on Facebook and Instagram

Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha sued Meta on October 22, 2026, alleging the company failed to curtail fraudulent product and financial scam ads on Facebook and Instagram. The state seeks per-violation civil penalties and consumer restitution. Meta spokesperson Andy Stone said the company has removed more than 159 million scam ads.
