Rhode Island Sues Meta Over Scam Ads on Facebook and Instagram

Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha sued Meta on October 22, 2026, alleging the company failed to curtail fraudulent product and financial scam ads on Facebook and Instagram. The state seeks civil penalties assessed per violation, plus consumer restitution, or repayment to victims. Meta spokesperson Andy Stone said the company has removed more than 159 million scam ads.
