Australia's Alliance Architecture Shifts After 75 Years

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Fijian PM Sitiveni Rabuka signed the Ocean of Peace Alliance in Suva on 6 July, committing both nations to "act to meet the common danger" if either is attacked. It's Australia's second formal defence treaty in under twelve months — following the PNG deal last October. For three-quarters of a century, Australia's only such alliances were with the US and New Zealand.
