Senate dumps Labor's bill to cut health rebate for over-65s
The Senate discharged Labor's Private Health Insurance Amendment Bill on 14 October 2026, halting its plan to unwind the higher rebate for Australians aged 65 and over from April 2027. The Greens joined the Coalition and crossbench to block it, demanding pensioners be excluded. I've seen smaller stoushes sink bigger savings.
