Alberta Premier Smith backs southern pipeline route, reversing earlier stance

Premier Danielle Smith accepted a southern routing for a new oil pipeline to the Pacific on July 2, abandoning her previous insistence on a northern corridor to BC's coast. The shift removes a major negotiating pressure point — the federal tanker moratorium on BC's North Coast stays intact under the new accord. The pipeline will be developed by federal Crown Trans Mountain Corp. with Pembina Pipeline Corp.
