Supreme Court to decide whether states can purge noncitizens from rolls before elections

The Supreme Court agreed to hear Mi Familia Unida v. Arizona, which asks whether the 1993 National Voter Registration Act bars states from removing noncitizens from voter rolls shortly before federal elections. A ruling favoring Arizona could allow states to conduct removals in the weeks before elections without triggering the law's 90-day quiet period. Similar citizenship verification programs are underway in Georgia, Texas, and other states.
